Geoff Hunt

Bio & Expertise: Geoff was born in Salem, Massachusetts (yes, the one with the witch trials) and grew up next door, in Marblehead.  As the son of both an Yank and a Brit, Geoff has attended school on both sides of the Atlantic, including Sherborne School for Boys, in Dorset, England.  He then double-majored in History and Government at Skidmore College (graduating Magna Cum Laude, with honors in both majors, rounding out his time by being a radio DJ at WSPN) and completed his M.A. in social studies education at Columbia University’s Teacher’s College. Geoff has been working with high school students for over 20 years, first as a teacher of history, political science, and law courses at The Beacon School in Manhattan.  Later, he worked for the Experiment in International Living in Vermont, first as a group leader (traveling on month-long programs with student groups to Australia, Belize, and the Navajo Nation) and then as Outreach Manager, working to select, provide financial aid, and onboard students and families.  He has worked with The Student Diplomacy Corps since its founding to develop fundraising and train leaders in risk mitigation, first aid, and cross-cultural competency. After moving back to NYC in 2015, Geoff worked first at Chess in the Schools and later at Breakthrough New York, running college bound programming for 9-12th graders who were first generation Americans and/or first-in-family to attend college in the U.S. Geoff currently works as CATES Tutoring's Enrollment Director, helping students, families, and institutions to improve student outcomes.  He lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn with his wife Erin, who owns and runs Express Yourself Therapy in The Tenderloin. A nerd in several ways, he enjoys music (from opera to punk), reading (comic books and SCOTUS decisions), the outdoors (SCUBA diving and through-hiking), and table-top games (roleplaying and board).

Fun Fact: Geoff walked 550km of the Camino Santiago in Spain in 2016 and he looks forward to doing it again.
