Kate Sullivan
Bio & Expertise: Kate feels most like herself when working with children. Over the last 12 years, she has worked in the classroom and as a private learning specialist to students of all ages. Kate worked at The Windward School for 10 years, in addition to a charter school in Newark, NJ and another in Brooklyn, NY. She has been a reading specialist, special education lead, classroom teacher, grade team leader, curriculum developer, and mentor teacher to students and teachers in grades 1 through 6 during her career, while working privately with students from 4-high school in her private practice.
Since leaving the classroom, Kate has expanded her ability to work one on one or in small groups with students, as well as providing program and curriculum support to schools as an educational consultant. She is Orton Gillingham trained with a specialization in PAF, and teaching students to read is her true passion. Kate is also trained in Teaching Basic Writing Skills, The Hochman Method, Singapore Math, and guided reading and reading comprehension strategies. She focuses mostly on reading and writing for younger elementary students, but also does writing and executive functioning support for older students. Kate loves to connect with students as people and her favorite thing is to be able to laugh with her students and create a personal relationship with her students and families where they learn together.
Location: Forest Hills, Queens. I see students from all over the United States and internationally virtually, but I also see students at my home.
Fun Fact: Kate is a performer at heart (as all teachers really are!) and has been fortunate enough to sing and act on TV and off-Broadway stages through the years.
